Gloucester High School Automotive Technology Lab

A renovated shop and classroom for the high school's automotive technology program, built with the rest of the school in use.

Gloucester High School Automotive Technology Lab
The Project

Gloucester High School's automotive technology students learn in a working shop, and this project rebuilt it for the City of Gloucester to Gienapp Architects' design: hazardous materials abatement, demolition, exterior envelope and site improvements, MEP upgrades and new finishes, with a bright classroom and lab that opens onto the shop through a full height overhead door.

The rest of the high school stayed in use throughout, behind separation barriers, with exits and corridors kept open, 72 hours' notice for any disruptive work and a 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. work day. Field work ran from July 7 to October 15, 2025, into the start of the school year, and the school celebrated the reopening with a ribbon cutting.
