MCC is renovating the City of Chelsea's DPW City Yard at 380 Beacham Street while public works crews keep using it. The City stays in every vehicle bay, storage area and mechanics bay for the full job, so the work is scheduled around daily operations and utility shutdowns happen only when the building is empty.
Designed by CSS Architects with B+AC on structure and Norian/Siani Engineering on MEP and fire protection, the project rebuilds the offices, locker rooms, showers, laundry and break spaces between column lines 6 and 9, mezzanines included, plus a kitchenette and the tire storage bay. Roof framing is reinforced for new mechanical units, and every exterior window is replaced.
- Offices, locker rooms, showers, laundry, break rooms and mezzanines rebuilt
- Roof framing reinforced for new mechanical units; new steel, framing and slab work
- Air source heat pumps, energy recovery ventilators and controls
- New dry sprinkler system with a nitrogen generator and a new fire alarm
- New 20 kW natural gas standby generator
- All exterior windows replaced, asbestos abatement
- Vehicle bays and mechanics shops in service throughout
